National Butchers Week

When I realised that National Butchers Week coincided with us having been at the Park for a year, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to catch up with Chris at our local butchers.


Nichols Family Butchers first opened their doors in 1994, offering locally sourced meats all butchered and prepared on the premises. With a focus on quality produce and exceptional customer service, it’s no surprise that they are still going strong after 23 years. They have a loyal customer base, including some who have been regular shoppers since the very beginning.
On 12th March 2016 Liam and I packed up the last of our belongings and made the 3-hour journey to Cakes and Ale. With a mixture of excitement and nerves, we left behind our family and friends to start our own adventure. Aside form the staff and Holiday Home owners at the Park, Chris and the team at Nichols were among the first to make us feel like we belonged here. They remembered our names after a few short weeks and before long would stop to chat if we saw them out locally and even pre-empted our regular orders! Their attention to detail is second to none and it’s awe-inspiring watching them personally greet each person who walks through their doors. They enquire about partners, pets and previous purchases, always making you feel welcome and valued. It is this kind of service that simply cannot be replicated in a supermarket and is what makes small independent businesses worth supporting.
Nichols’ new range of ‘Skinny Sausages’ have been a real hit at less than 5% fat (simply enough to bind the meat and flavours) and gluten free, they know how to keep up with demand. The beef on offer is from Theberton, the Gloucester Old Spot pork is from Snape and the chicken from Plover Products, all within a 20 mile radius. And that’s not all they do themselves; their BBQ packs of meat are all marinated on the premises with ‘secret’ blends of herbs and spices and they even make their own packets of dry seasoning mixes. There is an extensive range of international ‘store cupboard’ and fresh products in their deli too, ranging from Sushi wrappers and Chinese Rice Wine through to authentic Greek Feta cheese and Spanish Salami. The latest addition to the shop is a hot food counter, which should be ready in the next couple of weeks. Freshly cooked local rotisserie chicken…… delicious!
