2017 Memorial Day Celebrations
The land that the Park is situated on was once part of Leiston Airfield and home to 362nd, 363rd & 364th Fighter Squadrons, 357th Fighter Group and supporting units of the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. The heritage and memory of the land is important to us and to The Friends of Leiston Airfield, a group set us to enable the preservation of the history here, and we hold an annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving in honour of those who served here.
This years events will include a quiz on Saturday 27th May from 7pm. This will be £2 per person entry and we ask for each team to contribute a round of 5-10 questions covering subjects of their choice. There will be prizes for the winning and losing teams, and it promises to be an evening of good fun, and more importantly, good ale!
The Memorial Service will be held Sunday 28th May at 2.15pm, with the Reverend Christine Brooks conducting the service and music provided ably by The Royal British Legion Band from Leiston. The service will be followed by a BBQ and refreshments, along with a few activities such as a ‘Lucky Dip’ for the children and the ‘Water or Wine’ table (essentially a Lucky Dip for grown-ups!).
All monies raised will go towards the planning of the 2018 Memorial Weekend, when we hope to be able to once again reinstate our annual flyover from the Battle of Britain planes. We would love for you to join us over the weekend and would like to thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
